One of the most important things the New Deal did was create jobs. The government created programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and the National Recovery Administration (NRA) to put Americans back to work. These programs kept people employed and helped revive the economy.

The New Deal also tried to improve the overall economy by fixing prices, creating regulations, and increasing spending on infrastructure. These measures helped stimulate growth and make businesses more profitable. In addition, FDR presided over major legislation that changed America forever – like Social Security and the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC).

World War II

In the early 1940s, America had what seemed like an unassailable economic position. The country’s stunning industrial might had made it one of the world’s preeminent powers, while its expansive and innovative society had allowed it to lead the way in innovation and technology. But by 1954, that all seemed to be changing. For the first time in America’s history, there was uncertainty about where the country was headed.

This dynamic continued throughout the 1950s and 1960s – as new challenges arose, such as the Cold War and instability in Southeast Asia, America found itself constantly adjusting to new circumstances. In 1969, however, a turning point arrived with President Nixon’s historic “Noble Peace TV Speech” in which he outlined a strategy for winning the Cold War. With that declaration, America set out on a course of classical liberalism. Which would see it become one of the most prosperous countries in history.
